Misdemeanor

The Illinois Code of Corrections defines a misdemeanor as “... any offense for which a sentence to a term of imprisonment in other than a penitentiary for less than one year may be imposed". While it is said that a misdemeanor remains on your record forever, the State of Illinois has expungement laws that only a licensed professional attorney may be able to leverage to your advantage. In the State of Iowa, misdemeanors fall into 3 classes, you'll want to meet with an attorney to discuss if your case falls in any of these categories.

Felonies

Felonies fall into 5 categories, so you'll want to meet with an attorney to discuss the specifics of your case.
